Nilam Patel Bahushrut Foundation is an outcome of a thought which came as a flash to the founder, Nilam Patel, just a few days before her 50th birthday. She wanted to celebrate this significant day, with all the hearing impaired children and their parents, she had trained over the years, by organizing a dinner. But on the way to Saibaba temple on a Thursday, the thought flashed in her mind... Why not start an educational trust for these children from this same amount that would be spent on a dinner? Since I have always believed in inclusive education and mainstreamed hundreds of children in regular schools, this belief could be reinforced by awarding scholarships for higher education.

This thought just clicked and she was convinced that Saibaba has prompted her to do so. Her mind started racing and within a short period of about eight to ten days, Nilam Patel Bahushrut Foundation was founded on 2nd November 1993, exactly on her 50th birthday. The foundation is registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. It has received income tax exemption certificate under section 80-G. The Foundation is also registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976.
